Culture
Along its route the R1 passes through important towns and cities such as Münster, Potsdam, Berlin and Wittenberg, where the spirit of the Reformation can be felt in front of the church door where Luther nailed his theses.
To the left and right of the route it is often possible to discover romantic castles and palaces.
Historical town centres invite you to take a look around. And if you are interested, the towns and villages offer opportunities to follow the traces of important personalities such as Napoleon, Humboldt brothers, or Adelbert von Chamisso.
And various villages along the R1 have interesting exhibitions about aspects of rural life in Germany, where you will be able to admire horse-drawn farming equipment, staging posts, or mail coaches, and if you are lucky enough to ride past during one of the village festival you may see the historical farming equipment in action.
