Route France
The coastal region of France is increasingly providing for the needs of cycle tourism. Appropriate accommodation and service facilities are available.
A striking feature in France are the "Voies vertes", the secure green routes which in some places do not follow the roads and connect the towns and small fishing harbours along the sandy shoreline.
The LF1 has its starting point in Boulogne -sur-Mer and extends a warm welcome to French Flanders! This short section of the North Sea Route corresponds here to the Euro Route R1.
It connects the French Province Pas-De-Calais with West Flanders. From Boulogne it is possible to cross over by ferry to Great Britain.
Continuing cycling along the Channel coast, you soon arrive in Calais, the European Capital of Culture 2004, from where you can also cross over to England with the Euro Tunnel.
Always with a stiff breeze off the English Channel and the North Sea behind you the route continues along the coast from Calais and the mud flats in the direction of Flanders and the Belgian border.
